As an example, the limestone used in the lobby is a classic material, yet it was installed innovatively with a cleft finish, scored horizontally to give it an added layer of texture.

The workstations were custom designed with a nod to the classic modern lines of the 1950’s but the resin desk tops offer a unique alternative to what is expected.

David Paul to provide office rental space for the media industry in Burbank, California. Target Insight: Encourage tenant leasing by creating a unique, visually appealing entry into the Plaza Level of the building with extensive landscaping.

Continue touches of warm materials throughout the building. Outcome: This 14-story tower is built over 3-4 levels of underground parking.

The total building footprint occupies approximately 75,000 square feet on a 9 acre site. The Class A office building features unique granite and wood lobbies.

This project’s LEED rating is pending approval, but it is expected that the building will be certified Silver or Gold.

The Furnace is a boutique advertising agency founded in 2006. Bates Smart’s concept for the fitout was that of Alchemy, or transformation and transmutation.

The process of Alchemy also suggests a craft, something handmade with real attention to detail and a strong sense of meaning. It’s individual, unique, witty – not commonplace ormass produced.

The resulting fitout for the new premises is the creation of an office environment that nurtures The Furnace’s work culture and promotes social engagement, artistic freedom and experimentation.

The Mountbatten Building - JesticoWhiles

The building consists of the new departments for the School for Optoelectronics Research Centre and the School for Electronics and Computer Science, replacing a previous facility that was destroyed by a fire in 2005. The practice has delivered a high quality scientific research establishment to attract the best international talent and industry funding.

The design consists of dynamic forms and volumes that carefully frame the outside views. The main entrance opens into a light and spacious glazed atrium with an attractive feature staircase which connects to a new external square providing south facing outdoor space.

The fitout is themed around concepts of virtual and reality that reflect the new digital direction of Fairfax. In contrast to the vibrant and active public and communal areas, workspaces have been treated with a simple and more uniform palette forming a stable backdrop to the imagery and dynamic this is the everyday newsroom and media environment.

The spaces within the podium levels are linked by a central linear ‘boulevard’ creating straightforward circulation through an internal ‘streetscape’ and encouraging informal interaction between occupants.

This orientation is further emphasised by a spine of office/training facilities running below the two towers from one side of the site to the other.
